Dr. John Dreyzehner

Dr. Dreyzehner, a Preventive and Occupational Medicine specialist, was born in Chicago, Illinois. He received his B.S. in Psychology with honors from the University of Illinois at Urbana, his M.D. from the University of Illinois at Chicago and his M.P.H. from the University of Utah. He completed an occupational medicine residency at the Rocky Mountain Center for Occupational and Environmental Health, a NIOSH Resource Center at the University of Utah, and was Chief Resident. He began his medical career in 1989 as a U.S. Air Force Flight Surgeon, stationed at Andrews AFB , MD and with the 94 th Fighter Squadron at Langley AFB, Virginia. A Desert Storm veteran, he was honorably discharged a Major in 1997. From 1997 to 2002 he was in the clinical practice of Occupational Medicine in Russell County, Virginia. He is presently District Director of the Cumberland Plateau Health District, one of 35 health district s in the Virginia Department of Health. He is a Fellow of the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine where he serves in several leadership positions and is a member of the Workforce Advisory Committee of the National Association of City and County Health Officials. He serves as an officer and on the boards of several other professional and community organizations. He is a Member of the AMA, MSV, NACCHO, CSTE and several other professional medical organizations. In 2001 he was recognized by AMA- Glaxo Wellcome with the Emerging Leaders Fellowship Award. Dr. Dreyzehner is board certified by the American Board of Preventive Medicine and together with his wife and two children calls Abingdon, Virginia home.
