Administrative Support
Intern will be responsible for all aspects of office support activities. Intern will apply knowledge of basic office practices, procedures and equipment (e.g. telephone, computer, fax, copier, etc.) Intern must apply knowledge of grammar, punctuation, spelling, and basic mathematics. Intern will participate in some customer services areas such as delivering mail, greeting clients, etc. Intern must be proficient in MS Office. Needed three days a week (minimum of 15 hours).
Computer Programmer
Requires excellent communication skills and proven ability to multi-task. Candidate should possess proficiency with Java, Java Script, Visual Basic, ASP, HTML, Flash and ACCESS. Must be familiar Adobe Photoshop. Knowledge of Freehand, Illustrator, Acrobat and MS Office are a plus. A minimum of junior/senior course work completion with portfolio is preferred. Needed three days a week (minimum of 15 hours).
Database Administration and Management
Primary work functions may be singular or a combination of maintaining records and files; receiving, screening, reviewing and verifying documents; and searching for, compiling, coding and entering data for the purpose of systematic ease o' access and retrieval of stored materials. Must be proficient in Access. Needed three days a week (minimum of 15 hours).
Economics
Intern's primary focus is gathering and analyses of economic data for VA's Planning Districts 1-5. Must be proficient in Access. Intern must be comfortable with data mining and phone interviews. Needed three days a week (up to 20 hours).
Marketing
Requires excellent communication skills and proven ability to multi-task. Intern will assist with media contacts as well as coordinating other publicity. Intern will be responsible for writing press releases, white papers and PSA. Candidate should possess proficiency with Microsoft Word, ACCESS, Publisher, and PowerPoint. Knowledge of Quark, Adobe Photoshop, Front Page and Macromedia is a plus! Strong writing skills required. Needed three days a week (minimum of 15 hours).
Graphic Design
Requires excellent communication skills and proven ability to multi-task. Intern will assist in development of marketing materials including one-pagers, report layouts, presentation materials, as well as the design of web graphics. Intern will assist with media contacts as well as coordinating other publicity. Candidate should possess proficiency with Quark, Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Publisher, and Microsoft PowerPoint. Must be familiar with Illustrator, Acrobat and MS Office. Knowledge of Freehand, Flash and Dreamweaver are a plus. Needed three days a week (minimum of 15 hours).
Multimedia Production
Requires excellent communication skills and proven ability to multi-task. Intern will assist in development of marketing materials including interactive CD-ROM's, promotional web materials, electronic newsletters, one-pagers, report layouts, presentation materials, as well as the design of web graphics. Intern will assist Webmaster with website design. Candidate should possess proficiency with Macromedia Flash, Fireworks, Dreamweaver; Quark, Adobe Photoshop and Microsoft PowerPoint. Must be familiar with Illustrator, Acrobat and MS Office. Knowledge of Freehand and Front Page a plus. Needed three days a week (minimum of 15 hours).
Statistics
Intern will research to collect and analyze data dealing with workforce, economic, and business development in Southwestern Virginia. Must be comfortable contacting area business, workforce and economic development organizations. Intern will develop surveys and perform statistical analysis as needed. Candidate should possess proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Access and SPSS.
Strategic Research
Intern will research to gather information about business, workforce and economic development in Southwestern Virginia. Must be comfortable contacting area business, workforce and economic development organizations. Candidate should possess proficiency MS Word, Outlook and Access. Strong writing skills required. Knowledge of Quark, Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Publisher, and Microsoft PowerPoint a plus! Needed three days a week (minimum of 15 hours).
Tourism
Intern will research tourism and its effects on Southwestern Virginia. Intern will also work to promote tourism in Southwestern Virginia. Candidate should possess proficiency MS Word, Outlook and Access. Strong writing skills required. Knowledge of Quark, Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Publisher, and Microsoft PowerPoint a plus! Needed three days a week (minimum of 15 hours).
Web Design
Requires excellent communication skills and proven ability to multi-task. Candidate should possess proficiency with Macromedia Dreamweaver, Fireworks and Flash. Must be proficient with Adobe Photoshop. Intermediate experience with Java, Java Script, Visual Basic, HTML, Adobe Illustrator and ACCESS desired. Knowledge of Freehand, Acrobat and MS Office are a plus. A minimum of junior/senior course work completion with portfolio is preferred. Needed three days a week (minimum of 15 hours).
